Sania Mirza was born on 15th of November 1986 at Mumbai, India to the couple of Imran and Nasima but at present resides in Hyderabad. In her childhood she was coached by her father Imran Mirza. At that time she was only 6 years old. After seeing the immense talent Sania possessed her mother took her to a coach. 

As she was too small at that point of time he refused to coach her but later agreed when he found out how talented she was. She completed her education from the Nasr school and passed SSC (10th standard exams) with 63% marks. She became a professional tennis player in the year of 2003. She has become the highest ranked female tennis player ever from India when she was ranked 32 in 2005-2006.

Sania Mirza previous goal was to become the top 100 players by the end of 2005, but she could not stop herself from entering the top 50 after her consecutive good performances starting from the beginning of the year. She was ranked 206 in 2004. She made a giant stride.She is one of the most lovable and desired woman in the whole of India. She has got a huge fan following.

In 2003 she won the `Wimbledon Championships Doubles` event after she teamed up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia. In the following year she won the Hyderabad Open doubles. For that year she also received the Arjuna award for her dedication towards tennis.

In 2005 she won the Hyderabad Open singles defeating Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in the final thus becoming the first Indian lady to win any WTA title. That year in the Dubai Tennis Championships she reached the quarter-finals defeating then US Open Champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-2. She then went on to beat Nadia Petrova in the 2005 Acura Classic. Seeing her hard-hitting tennis, legendary Pancho Segura feels that she resembles Romanian tennis legend Nastase. 

Sania Mirza also reached the final of the Forest Hills Women's Tennis Classic, New York but failed to win the title. Sania got a wild card entry in the 2005 Australian Open and reached the third round. Then she lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Wimbledon.

In the 2005 US Open Sania Mirza reached the 4th round and later was defeated by Marion Bartoli of France.

The year of 2006 has not been a kind year to her as she was defeated by Michaela Krajicek in the 2nd round of Australian open. Then she did not not do too well in the Bangalore Open loosing to Pin in the second round and to Hingis in Dubai open. But everyone understands that life has ups and downs. This is the down part and soon she will be back with a bang.

She enjoys swimming and also listens to music in her spare time. She also likes to spend time with her sister Anam. She hates eating apples and bananas. She loves biriyani.

- Won 2003 Junior Wimbledon Championships doubles partnering Alisa Kleybanova.

- Reached the fourth round of the 2005 US Open after being defeated by Marion Bartoli.

- Reached the second round of the 2006 Australian open after being defeated by Michaela Krajicek.

- Won the doubles of Bangalore Open in 2006.
